Frequently Asked Questions

Quick Answers for Your Convenience

Who needs DOT urine specimen collector training?

Anyone who collects urine specimens for DOT-regulated drug tests must be qualified under 49 CFR §40.33.

What does qualification require?

Qualification training on 49 CFR Part 40 procedures, followed by a proficiency demonstration of five consecutive error-free mock collections.

How is the urine collector course structured?

Seven self-paced, narrated modules, each ending with a knowledge check, followed by a 48-question final assessment.

What score do I need to pass?

80% or higher on the final assessment. You can retake it as many times as you need.

Who needs BAT training?

Anyone who performs DOT breath alcohol tests must complete BAT qualification training and a proficiency demonstration on the evidential breath testing device they will use (49 CFR §40.213).

How are mock collections / proficiency demonstrations done?

Mock collections (urine) and mock tests (BAT) are done live online with a Get Certable monitor. After you enroll, you'll receive a link to book your live online mock sessions at a time that works for you.

What is error correction training?

If an MRO or laboratory notifies you of a collection or testing error, DOT requires error correction training within 30 days of that notification. Urine collectors (49 CFR §40.33(f)) and BATs (49 CFR §40.213(f)) each complete a review of the error plus three consecutive error-free mock collections or tests. We offer both live online via video call for $99.

Do the courses include printable forms?

Yes. The DOT Urine Specimen Collector course includes 7 printable PDF resource forms (collection checklist, shy bladder log, annotated sample CCF walkthrough, full-page sample Federal CCF with all 5 copies, direct observation checklist, problem collections quick reference, and a collector qualification and mock collections tracker). The BAT course includes 6 (collection checklist, BAT scripted statements, EBT calibration-check log, screening and confirmation flowcharts, an ATF walkthrough, and a full-page sample ATF).

How long do I have access to the course?

You have 12 months of access from the date you enroll, so you can learn at your own pace. We recommend completing your live online mock sessions within 30 days of finishing the online training.

Do I need refresher training?

Yes. DOT requires urine specimen collectors (49 CFR §40.33(d)) and breath alcohol technicians (49 CFR §40.213(d)) to complete refresher training at least every five years, including a new proficiency demonstration.

What is your refund policy?

Online courses can be refunded within 7 days of purchase if you have completed less than 20% of the course and no certificate has been issued. Live online mock and error-correction sessions can be refunded if you cancel at least 24 hours before your scheduled time. See our Refund Policy for full details.
